Les Amis de l'IHES

In this strange year, the association Les Amis de l'IHES had to adapt its activities. Usually, three public events are organized annually at the Marilyn and James Simons Conference Center at IHES. Slava Rychkov's (IHES) conference Defeating the Lego Logic , originally scheduled to be held in person at IHES in March, was held online via Zoom, on Thursday 29 October 2020, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and was well attended.

Summary of the talk:

Traditional physics wants to find elementary constituents in every phenomenon, which we assemble like Lego bricks to build more complicated objects. I want to imagine with you another world, or another physics, which does not use elementary components.

Given the health situation, no concert was scheduled after this conference. Following on from this successful event, the association plans to repeat the videoconference experience in 2021.

The annual membership fee for the Amis de l'IHES association is 30 for ordinary members and 80 for benefactor members. The association is also entitled to receive donations.

The General Tax Code considers honorary contributions as donations when they do not provide any material benefit; this is the case of the additional contribution ( 50 ) paid by the benefactor members.
